Both teams had prepared for a derby and set up accordingly. Sloga threatened Markov's goal as early as the 2nd minute through Ćirić, and when he was upended in the box the referee's whistle stayed silent. The hosts kept attacking and appealed for a penalty again in the 6th minute, after three players challenged Szabo, but again did not get it. For the first quarter of an hour Sloga played almost textbook football, yet in one counter-attack Kitli got clear and scored from some 20 metres to put Senta ahead. The goal did not shake the hosts: they went on attacking, Markov was constantly alert, and in the 21st minute a Babić free kick whistled just past the left-hand post. The equaliser came in the 44th minute, when after another Babić free kick Kertesz rose well and headed over Markov, who was dazzled by the sun.
In the second half the visitors regrouped and attacked more and more, and the change of rhythm unsettled the hosts. Sloga created more chances than Senta but could not score. In the 70th minute the visitors had a free kick: the powerful shot rebounded off goalkeeper Lovrić, a scramble followed in front of goal, and the referee punished the pushing with a penalty. Stormy scenes ensued and the stewards could barely restore order, but the decision stood. Farago converted the penalty with confidence. The last minutes belonged to the hosts territorially, and they hit both the crossbar and the post, but no longer had the strength to equalise.
