The derby was marked by a string of missed chances, as well as five yellow cards and any number of warnings from the referee. The tempo in the first twenty minutes was fierce, the ball bouncing around one goalmouth and then the other. In the 11th minute Kitli fired wide from ten metres, and four minutes later Szalma missed a similar chance. The goal took until the 25th minute, when Rudics lashed a rebound off the goalkeeper into the net first time. Two minutes later the same player put Kitli clean through, but that big chance went begging too.
In the 30th minute Ozvegy made a fine save at the end of a Subotica counter-attack, and straight afterwards Posavčić missed the chance to equalise. The hosts were then pushed back into their own half, and in the 43rd minute a cross from the left reached Szalma on the edge of the six-yard box, where he scored without hesitating.
Senta had a slight territorial advantage after the break, the visitors mostly defending and breaking occasionally. In the 64th minute Krizsan cleared off the line, and in the 80th goalkeeper Ćirić turned a fierce shot bound for the top right corner away for a corner. In the last five to ten minutes the hosts pinned their opponents back and Rudics had one more chance to win it, but he shot wide.
