The two teams played an excellent match and were evenly matched in the first half. Matić missed the first chance in the 23rd minute, when Tankosić saved his close-range shot. In the 28th minute the hosts went ahead after a goalmouth scramble, and in the 35th Popin headed in past a hesitant Senta defence. In the 43rd Štrbac headed wide from five metres.

In the second half the visitors took more of the initiative, but shots from Popov and Cvetković missed by centimetres, and in the 74th minute a Josimović shot from 20 metres hit the bar. The hosts tried counter-attacks; in the 79th minute Živkov saved a close-range Kanja shot.
