In the year football in Senta celebrates its hundredth birthday, the town's stadium welcomed one of Hungary's best-known clubs. Ferencvaros remain among the most popular foreign teams across the former Yugoslavia, and around 1,500 spectators turned out for the friendly. Earlier in the anniversary year Senta had also hosted the Serbia and Montenegro national team, when the stadium was packed to capacity.
Kick-off was delayed by a good three quarters of an hour: after crossing the border the Ferencvaros team bus got lost, and a police patrol had to be sent to find it. Fans waiting to see Lajos Szucs and Peter Lipcsei were disappointed, as both missed out through injury.
The visitors showed the gulf in class from the first minute. Timar, making his Ferencvaros debut, opened the scoring, and Bajevski struck twice - the second in the 40th minute - to make it 0:3 at the break. Almost exactly with the half-time whistle a heavy summer downpour hit the ground and drove most of the crowd away.
Senta came out for the second half with changes: Trolić, Savić and Terzin came on, and Kovacs replaced Ozvegy in goal. The half began with a big chance for the hosts, but Kemenes made a superb save from close range. Laczko, fully recovered from a broken leg, scored twice, and Domokos also found the net in between.
