Heavy defeat in the town derby - Senta vs. Žitopromet (87/88)

The Senta management had good reason to fear this fixture: the team took the field without three key players, Birkas, Farago and Đurović. On top of that Kitli, the man expected to supply the goals, had to go off in the 22nd minute with a serious injury, so Senta played 68 minutes with four reserves in the side. The match opened with attacks at both ends and the hosts on top in midfield, though they never seriously threatened. In the 7th minute, from a counter-attack that looked harmless, Belec shot from 18 metres and a far from powerful effort gave Žitopromet the lead after a bad goalkeeping error. Kontić missed from a similar position six minutes later, but in the 25th minute Rudics ran on to a good ball in the box and headed in a fine second. With that the match was effectively decided. Two minutes later Rudics hit the post, in the 28th he was brought down on the edge of the box and converted the penalty himself, and in the 39th minute Csernak thundered in a free kick from 20 metres.

Senta started the second half a little better, but the visitors soon took over again. In the 52nd minute Rudics dribbled past the right-back and scored his third. The hosts then had two chances to reduce the deficit, but neither Verba nor Agoston could find the net. In the 67th minute Nikolić was fouled in the box and Stanačev scored Senta's only goal from the spot. In the closing stages Csernak struck again in the 86th minute, and two minutes later Olajos, also from a penalty, made the final score 1:7.
