Kitli and Mazak settle the neighbours' derby - Potisje vs. Senta (87/88)

Outstanding displays by Kitli, Mazak and Birkas decided the derby between the two neighbours. A real storm raged before the match and at times during it, which left its mark on the quality, and many spectators went home. Even so, both teams fought hard. The visitors came to Kanjiža to win and did just that, because the right side of the home defence was at times wide open and Kitli and Mazak had plenty of room. In the 4th minute Senta had a free kick from 17 metres: Dukai saved the shot that came round the wall but lost sight of Kitli, who ran in and fired into the far corner. Potisje settled after ten minutes or so and went on the attack, yet it was Senta who scored again in the 31st minute, Kitli leaving Vajda standing and, with a little luck, slipping the ball between the advancing goalkeeper's legs. Four minutes later Sekulić pulled one back with a thunderous strike from some 25 metres.

In the second half the hosts took more of the initiative and did not lack effort, but Senta's counter-attacks were the more dangerous. So it proved in the 67th minute, when a one-two brought the ball back to Mazak, who beat the home goalkeeper with ease from close range. The hosts' pressure in the last ten minutes could not change a result that was fair in every respect.
