The hosts repeated old mistakes. They realised too late that a team of quick players can only be matched by similarly sensible football. Their attacks were full of errors and the forwards failed to take even the clearest chances - Petrik found himself in a scoring position three times and missed all three, one of them in the 40th minute, when he could have put Senta ahead. Early on the visitors had more of the initiative and created some awkward moments in front of the Senta goal, but the defence, led by goalkeeper Bontovics, always reacted in time.
The hosts attacked more in the second half. In the 50th minute substitute Roganović was fouled in the box with a clear sight of goal; Đuran took the penalty, but his poorly placed kick was saved by the diving Matlak. From that minute Pionir played with ten men after Mihalik was sent off. Senta stayed on top, yet it was the Subotica side who went ahead in the 67th minute, Hugyi scoring with a well-placed free kick from 30 metres.
The equaliser came in the 85th minute, Potpara finding the top left corner from 40 metres. The joy lasted only two minutes - Kujundžić broke clear and restored the visitors' lead. The hosts threw everything forward and the visitors fell back; in the 88th minute Losonczi went through on his own, but Bontovics saved with his foot. Pionir introduced themselves in Senta with attractive, effective football and quick, clever players.
