Preparations in full swing: nobody has left and the youngsters get their chance (1982/1983)

The team held its seventh training session under coach Gyorgy Major and technical director Nikola Pjevač. Fifteen players worked on their fitness on the auxiliary pitch: Rozsa, Bulatović, Birkas, Gyetvai, Pecarski, Đurović, M. Petrović, Miklos, Kitli, Nikolić, Todorović, Nyilasi, Jovanović, Arokszallasi and Sovenyhazi. Markov, the Zmukić brothers, Agoston and Barna join the preparations from 1 August, after which the squad will be complete.

Apart from Sundays there are two to three hours of fitness work every day, with individual attention for some players. On Sundays practice matches are played against teams from Senta and the neighbouring municipalities. The club has also entered the two-day tournament in Ada, in which a team from Hungary is taking part alongside several second-division sides; that is where it should become clear who belongs where in the team.

More young players are being given a chance: Jovanović and Harmat mainly in defence, Đurović in attack. With them, eighty per cent of the squad is made up of young players, and home-grown ones at that. The club has had to give up on the return of Mihaly Soti and Mile Ilijin, as it could not meet their terms. Farago comes back from military service in September, and there is a prospect that Spartak Subotica will loan Kerleta, a product of Senta, for a time. The arrival of Zoran Petrović, a talented player from the youth team of Red Star Belgrade, whose brother Milorad played for Senta last season, is almost certain.

Coach Major says the players know that, after the planned reorganisation of the competition, only good performances can earn them a place at a higher level, and that their attitude is the right one. Success, he adds, depends on the attitude of everyone: the board, the players and the supporters.
