Despite the defeat in the first leg Senta travelled to Melenci with great ambition and the will to win, accompanied by some 300 hopeful supporters. Although coach Čikić also sent the enthusiastic youngsters Recsko, Kerleta and Agoston into battle, against a Rusanda side defending with all its strength and combining superbly they could not change a situation that had seemed impossible. Senta lost in a sporting manner, and so the applause due to the winners was rightly theirs as well.
The match began with Rusanda attacks, but Senta took the initiative in the opening minutes and played openly, their good, quickly built attacks being broken up by the home defence. The first good move ended with a Štrbački header, but the ball went over in the 6th minute. In the 22nd minute Jeftić saved a superb Recsko free kick, and in the 32nd Ćulum blocked a well-directed Todorović shot with his leg in the goalmouth. Senta attacked mainly down the left, while Rusanda, set up to defend, tried only counter-attacks, and one of them brought a goal in the 38th minute: after a corner the ball came to Milan Radišić on the left, who beat his marker and scored unstoppably from a tight angle into the bottom left corner. Senta were on top at the start of the second half, and in the 52nd minute a Savić header missed by inches. From then on Rusanda controlled the game, and in the 74th minute Milan Radišić beat a defender and crossed well for Ćurčić to score calmly. That sealed Senta's fate.
