At its meeting on Friday evening the club's board reviewed the team's performance in the autumn. Although half of the players are young and came into the first team from the youth side, Senta were a worthy opponent for every member of the league: of 15 matches they won nine, drew four and lost only twice. The board welcomed second place as a better result than expected.
The team struggled at first, mainly because of an inadequate summer build-up. New coach Gyorgy Major took charge after the season had begun, and his thorough work soon showed in the play. The youngsters fitted in well and, together with their older, experienced team-mates, quickly formed a cohesive unit that went twelve consecutive matches unbeaten. The run ended only in the 14th round in Ada, where the league leaders won by a single goal.
The plan had been to finish the autumn in the top four, and the players achieved that with an exemplary attitude. The coach gave everyone a chance, and second place was earned by this squad: Markov, Cvitko, Barna, Recsko, Birkas, Ivica Zmukić, Rozsa, Nikola Zmukić, Laszlo Agoston, Kitli, Miklos, Sipos, Todorović, Nikolić, Vulatović, Vukov and Gyore.
Although the championship has stopped for the winter, training continues twice a week, and there is a prospect of the team doing part of its preparation at a mountain resort. The basic conditioning work begins on 10 January. The review concluded that the defence and the forwards' finishing need to improve most. The club believes that with thorough preparation Senta can compete with any opponent in the spring, all the more so because the matches against the other contenders will be played in front of the home crowd.
Those who spoke at the meeting were president Istvan Urban, coach Gyorgy Major, technical director Nikola Pjevač, coaching-staff member Rudolf Eszes, board members Imre Papp and Ferenc Markus, captain Milan Todorović and players Branislav Markov and Nikola Zmukić.
