The Senta coaching staff had good reason to fear this fixture, since only a side of similar experience can hold its own against a team of far more seasoned players. In the first part of the match the hosts had more of the midfield, at times laid siege to the visitors' goal and quickly won two corners. Gajda's goal in the 18th minute confirmed their superiority.
For a while after the break two evenly matched teams traded counter-attacks. Then the leaders increasingly set out to show they would allow no surprise this time. In the 54th minute, from a counter that looked harmless, Kitli picked up the ball on the left and, after a cardinal defensive error, rolled it into the net. Four minutes later the same mistake was repeated on the right, and Borivoj Filipov headed the visitors in front. The home bench then erred as well: looking for an equaliser it opened up too soon and sent Belec forward, after which the Senta defence became a thoroughfare. The hosts' counter-attacks were not without promise, but nothing came off for the forwards, and Graničar added a third through Sekulić in the 75th minute. The sporting nature of the match owed something to the exemplary refereeing of Tanović and his assistants.
