The newcomers from Mol spring an opening-day surprise - Bačka vs. Senta (78/79)

The league newcomers taught a lesson to a Senta side heralded as title contenders. With a spirited display the hosts outdid their more experienced and more polished opponents. The first quarter of an hour was midfield play, with Senta's attacks the more dangerous. The first goal came in the 25th minute from a move between Štrbački and Sablatura: the sharp left winger worked his way through the home defence and fired past the advancing goalkeeper.

The second half began with Bačka attacks, and they paid off: in the 50th minute Eberhart broke down the right and Mišković turned his ball in. The winner came in the 70th minute, when Zoltan Nagy released Kuburić, who burst into the box and shot into the right corner past the advancing Markov. Senta did everything to get a draw but without success. Soti, Gvozdenović and Sablatura stood out for the visitors.
