The first part of the match looked more like a training session than a league game. Neither team played up to its real ability or with any idea, and at times the ball seemed to be kicked about aimlessly. The visitors' intention of taking at least a point home contributed a good deal, as they mostly kept the ball and played for time. Markov's goal was not threatened once in that period.
The wretched first half was followed by 45 very exciting and far more eventful minutes. Both teams played in a more organised and incisive fashion, and Todorović and his team-mates set the same tempo as the previous Sunday in Horgoš. That surprised the visitors, who went on the defensive, and it soon cost them. As early as the 55th minute an I. Zmukić header struck the post, and a minute later, from a Todorović cross, the same player made amends and put his side ahead. The second goal was not long in coming: in the 64th minute Todorović picked up a ball played out to the left wing and crossed, and Kerleta, despite close marking, headed it in superbly. The visitors then opened up in search of a goal, but the hosts repelled their attacks.
