Everyone sensed that the two title contenders would give their very best in this match and fight to the end for both points, or at least a draw. There was also a fear that, for that very reason, the match might at times overstep the bounds of fair play. It was a pleasant surprise for the crowd of some 600 that both teams tried to achieve their aim by sporting means. To judge by their play, the visitors badly wanted to keep at least a point, but their forwards only threatened Markov in the first half: in the 24th minute a Kopunović shot struck the crossbar. After that the visitors had no further real chance.
The second half began with quick home attacks; the hosts were now the better side and produced fine, varied moves. For seventeen minutes play was entirely in the visitors' half, during which the Senta forwards missed two or three clear chances. The loyal supporters had to wait until the 89th minute: in a fine home attack in the closing moments a big scramble developed in front of goal, and Zmukić took advantage to score the winner. Senta coach Kerić said afterwards that it had been early-season football, that the lads had fought to the end and that on chances there could have been more goals, but that there was still polishing to do, especially in attack.
