A bitter cup - Senta vs. Radnički Šid (13/14)

Around 300 supporters left the City Stadium with their heads bowed. They had swallowed another bitter cup, unable to believe the way their team concedes goals and loses the most important matches. The game against Radnički of Šid was one of those. The opening minutes were full of hope, and the only question seemed to be how many the visitors would concede. In the 15th minute Matić clipped the post from a tight angle on the right, and a minute later Popov shot wide from a promising position. Matić again found himself one on one with Romić, as did Đuričin at the six-yard box, but the empty net went begging.

FK Senta held the ball for two thirds of the match while the visitors defended; their first serious shot on target did not come until the 40th minute. After the break the roles were reversed: Radnički tightened up in midfield and opted for fast counter-attacks, having spotted that this was exactly where their opponents were vulnerable.

The ball had barely moved from the centre circle when the man of the match, Marko Lepinjica, carried it from midfield and burst into the penalty area; Cvetković tried to block him but got it badly wrong, deflecting the ball into his own net. Another defensive lapse followed soon after: from a corner Ivković was left unmarked and duly took his chance. Lepinjica sealed the 0:3 with a textbook counter-attack. Along with the three points, Senta also lost top spot, and their title hopes were badly shaken.
